Owning a laser engraver that’s super functional without breaking the bank is something that will interest businesses and individuals alike: We got the Mecpow X3 pro 10W a few weeks back and will be sharing our experiences in this short Mecpow X3 Pro review publication. But first, let’s take a small dive into Laser engravers and how they work.

A laser engraver helps you make permanent prints on cardboard, wood, glass, textiles, paper, and plastic materials by melting and vaporizing the workpiece’s surface through the heat generated by the laser beam. It doesn’t necessarily need to be bulky to deliver excellent results (i.e., engrave permanent marks on your materials), and the Mecpow X3 Pro is just one of those pretty handy units you can get for home or business uses.

Mecpow X3 Pro Overview

Mecpow X3 Pro is a laser engraver machine built for multi-purpose usage. It has a compact design that fits into home and business spaces and comes with decent specs that compensate for its price. The Mecpow X3 Pro uses 60W electrical power to deliver 10W laser engraving power at a speed of about 10000 mm/min and an accuracy of 0.01 mm.

This laser engraver can print on wood, fabric, acrylic, plastic board, bamboo, fruit, leather, and other surfaces/materials. The software applications support Windows and macOS systems. This unit comes with an air pump kit, laser goggles, and other accessories (listed below).

The Mecpow X3 Pro is lightweight, and supports Wi-Fi, USB, and TF card connectivity; so you can quickly get going without a computer in sight – download the MKS Laser smartphone app and connect through any of these aforementioned options. Of course, there’s a “user manual” included in the box to guide you on setting up and using this laser engraver.

Mecpow X3 Pro Features

Mecpow X3 Pro Features

The Mecpow X3 Pro comes with a number of features that make up for the price tag. Hereunder are some of the most prominent features you should know about.

1. Air Assist Pump

The Mecpow X3 Pro comes standard with an air assist pump, which is quite indifferent because other similar products will have you buy this kit as an add-on. The air assist kit/pump is there to help remove debris and smoke to ensure cleaner cuts.

This kit also prevents buildups due to waste from cutting through engraved materials – reducing possible risks of fire and promoting a safer workplace for a better engraving experience. The kit is adjustable, so you can regulate the airflow to suit your needs.

2. 10W Diode Laser

Here’s the main feature of the package – a 10W diode laser with 0.06×0.08mm focus efficiency. This laser can perfectly cut through engraving materials with an accuracy of 0.01mm. It can cut a 20 mm-thick wood board and a 15 mm-thick acrylic board. The tiny focal point of the laser head definitely contributed to its compact size compared to others from different brands.

3. Large Engraving Area

Coming standard with the Mecpow X3 Pro is a 16.1-inch (L) by 15.7-inch (W) engraving area; it’s a frame where you have to put in the materials you’re engraving on. If your materials are quite longer, you can purchase the Mecpow Extended Y-axis add-on (this one is sold separately). This add-on increases the engraving area to 29.5 inches on the length (Y) axis, but the width area is not extendable.

4. Free Eyewear For Protection

One of the impressive stuff that comes with the Mecpow X3 Pro is the free eyewear to protect your eye from debris that may fly around during cutting. This pair of laser shield goggles also filters out up to 98% of UV light.

5. Flame Sensor

A flame sensor is included in the laser module; it is there to alert the user if the machine is heated up to the point of a possible fire breakout. The sensor is armed with an alarm system.

6. Gyroscope Sensor

This sensor works similarly to the flame sensor; its function is to halt the system once the machine tilts up to 50±5°. If the machine tilts beyond 50±5°, the engraving efficiency would be poor.

7. Security Lock

This is another important feature. As the name implies, this function allows you to lock the machine and prevent unauthorized access. You’ll find this feature most handy if you are a home user and have kids around.

How To Use Mecpow X3 Pro

Mecpow X3 Pro Tutorials

The Mecpow X3 Pro does come with a user manual that instructs you on how to use the machine. Combining the manual with video guides will help you get started in no time (even as a first-time user of the machine).

Step One: Set Up The Machine

When you unbox the machine, the two rails with measurement signs are meant to be adjacent; one should be the horizontal front rail and the other should be the vertical (left-side) rail. The other two rails can be set up in a similar pattern (but now the opposite).

After you have set up the rails, install the “belt” to the left rail that has measurement markings – make the belt go around the stepper motor and tighten the belt towards the end (where the left rail meets the front rail). The rest of the setup is pretty intuitive.

Step Two: Install The Driver Software

Mecpow X3 Pro works with two driver software; one of which is free and the other is paid. The free one – LaserGRBL – only works on Windows OS, but the paid one – LightBurn -works on both Windows and macOS. Head to the manufacturer’s website and download the driver.

After the download, install the driver software on your system and launch it. If you’re going to use a mobile phone, install the MKSLaser app; it is available for Android and iOS platforms.

Step Three: Start Engraving and Cutting

Mecpow X3 Pro Review

With the software or app installed on your device, you’d need to launch the app/software and pair it with your machine. Once this is done, you will be able to launch operations from the driver app/software.

There are lots of features and functions available on the software that we cannot cover individually here. However, to start an engraving process, place the material correctly on the board and set the engraving design from the design software/app.

The design software/app has a suite of tools for creating different engraving designs and shapes. You also have to set the cutout area if the engraving needs to be cut out.

Mecpow X3 Pro Review and Verdict

Mecpow engraver tutorials

The Mecpow X3 Pro is a budget-friendly, high-precision laser engraver that utilizes minimal power to deliver high-accuracy engravings. It is a compact engraving machine that’s shipped with a pair of laser goggles and an air assist kit.

So far, we’ve done some prints and are very much impressed with the output. We’ve tested different materials and settings – including printing on plain paper (with lower output configuration) and can say the machine works as advertised and would be a good addition to your home or business.

In all, the device works and we can easily recommend it for personal and professional uses. It is available on GeekBuying for less than $300, you can include the add-ons to your purchase if need be. Generally, this laser engraving machine works just fine and is a perfect buy for the price. You can operate the machine from a PC or mobile phone, and it engraves your design on just about any surface: metal, glass, wood, ceramics, and more.
